"BADAJOZ     IS OUR TOWN"

Badajoz is a town with about 140.000 habitants. It´s the most populous city in Extremadura (Spain).

Our town is set on the banks of the river Guadiana in the extreme south-west of Spain. near to Portugal(about 3 miles).

Its origins go back to prehistoric times, the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs( "Taifa" kingdom, Almoravids(XI century) and Almohads). After that, it was Alfonso XI king of Christians who "reconquered" Badajoz.

Badajoz has a lot of monuments:

The CATHEDRAL

Set in the old city administrative centre ,

it´s building began the 13th century.

It contains three naves and twelves chapeles.

It´s a musture of Romanesque and Gothic style, whith Renaissance ornamental elements.

The Torre Espantaperros y Plaza Alta

Set near of the arabs´wall at the top of the old city,

The Tower of Aprendiz

was built by the Alamohads in an octagonal shape with smooth walls.

PUERTA DE PALMAS

It´s the most representative monument of our city.

Its was built in the 16th century

by the architect Juan de Herrera.

It´s a mixture of Arab and Christian style, with two towers and the royal shield of Carlos V and FelipeII (The Austrias ).

This monumental entrance joined the outer part of Badajoz to the old centre .by way of a bridge called The "Puerta de Palmas" Bridge.

As the other end of this bridge, crissing through a popular part of the city called " La Estación"(Station) we arriveat the area of Badajoz named "La UVA" where our school is situated.

This area is populated by lower income working class people.

It is comprised of a Hight School, a middle school ,two elementary schools and two nursery schools.

Unfortunately it does not have recreational areas, parks or gardens or sports facilities. However it does include an out-patient clinic, a church and various stores and banks.

NUESTRO CENTRO

(Our School)

Our school is situated in the center of the "U.V.A". It was built in 1.995

It´s classroons are very spacious and airy, with facilities sufficient. These incluide an indoor gymnasium, a library, an auditorium and three "special education classroons". It also has a caferia which feeds nearly 100 students daily.

The playground is not very large, but it has a multi-functional field and trees.

In a separate building there are four classroons used for "Middle School Students", together with a gymnasium and tecnological workshop.

The Staff is composed of 26 teachers

We have an extra curricular department wich includes activities with students and teachers of different countries through Internet.
